I have been blessed to have been able to stay home with my children ever since our oldest child was born and I have loved every minute of it (well, okay- most minutes of it).
Our days have been filled with playing, painting, and playgrounds, but when my daughter was around 2 years old, I began to feel as though something critical was missing from our precious days together.
We often did the same activities over and over again and when we finished with those I would think to myself, “Hmm…now what???”.
Sometimes I would think of a fun idea or project, but since I hadn’t planned ahead I would rarely have the supplies I needed. I had good intentions and lofty goals of things I wanted to pass on to my child, but I wasn’t doing anything to explicitly address them.
Something had to change.
So I did what all good parents do, I turned to the internet and began to research. I started looking at various preschool curriculums. I briefly considered purchasing a curriculum, but they easily cost between $100-$400 and that wasn’t in our budget.
My background is in elementary education, so I decided I would piece together my own curriculum to help me be intentional with my daughter.
This worked well for a few months. I was able to meet her specific needs and add that all important piece that had been missing from our day. However, I’ll be honest, it was very time-consuming since I was starting from scratch.
Then one day a friend mentioned to me that she used a program called ABC Jesus Loves Me (ABCJLM) with her daughter and asked if I had ever heard of it. I hadn’t, so she told me a little bit about it and it sounded great. I stayed up way too late that night scouring the ABCJLM website.
The program looked terrific! It covered all of the content areas I was looking for, plus even more! It also looked as though it would require very minimal prep work on my part and perhaps best of all, it was 100% FREE!
Now, as we near the end of our 2nd year of using the ABC Jesus Loves Me curriculum, I can confidently say it’s an outstanding preschool curriculum that helps parents and teachers to be intentional with the children in their lives and I’m so thankful to have it in our lives!
What This Free Preschool Curriculum Offers:
ABCJLM is a Bible-based preschool curriculum with a strong emphasis on play. Here are the content areas that are covered (some are specific to certain ages):
- Bible (Stories, Songs, Memory Verses, etc.)
- Character Traits
- Literacy (Book of the Week, Action Rhymes, Letter Sounds, Sight Words, etc.)
- Math (Shapes, Number Recognition, and Counting)
- Self-Care and Manners
- Fine Motor Skills (Picking Up Small Items, Drawing, Using Scissors, Tying Shoes, etc.)
- Gross Motor Skills (Throwing and Kicking a Ball, Jumping, Completing an Obstacle Course, etc.)
- Information (Name, Address, and Phone Number)
- Visual Perception
The curriculum is geared towards kids ages 1-5. All of the lesson plans are available for FREE online, although if you want to purchase a hard copy they are available for $30 each (still way cheaper than most!).
One benefit of purchasing the books is that they include a bonus daily schedule not found online, although, to be honest- I still end up tweaking and personalizing the schedule to fit our families needs. For example, my daughter is in the four-year-old program which is designed to be used four days a week. We condense these into two days though because that’s what works for us.
ABCJLM also offers flexibility in what books and materials you use. Heidi Franz, the creator of the program, gives plenty of great options, but I also know she encourages parents to use what they have available to them and to not stress about having every single book or manipulative she suggests.
Speaking of Heidi, although I do not know her personally, I sometimes feel as though I do because she makes herself so available to offer support and encouragement to those using her curriculum. She’s very active and engaged on the ABCJLM Facebook page where she answers questions and she has also been producing some great online videos that address key parenting topics.
Our family has been blessed by the ABC Jesus Loves Me curriculum and I’m so thankful to Heidi for the ministry she does. ABCJLM has changed the environment of our home and the legacy my husband and I are passing on to our children. We say our memory verses before each meal together and often talk about real life applications of the character traits we’re learning. I’m not sure these things would be happening if I hadn’t discovered ABCJLM.
I have seen such amazing growth in my own daughter over the last two years, both academically and spiritually. My four-year-old knows all her letter sounds and sight words, but more importantly, she knows God’s word and has already made the decision to follow Him.
No longer do I have to question what we will do next or wish I had something prepared. Thanks to Heidi and ABCJLM I can be intentional with the time I have with my kids. Now I don’t just have good intentions or lofty goals, but I’m acting on those intentions and achieving those goals.
Hopefully, you can already tell this, but I highly recommend ABC Jesus Loves Me. It’s an outstanding preschool curriculum that helps parents and teachers be truly intentional with the children in their lives. Check it our for yourself!
PS- For more information about ABC Jesus Loves Me, go here to check out the website or visit the Facebook page. Please note, ABCJLM is free for use in the home with your immediate family only. Daycares, churches, and schools require the use of a license. And in case you are wondering, I am in no way being compensated for this review. It is my 100% honest opinion based on our family’s experience!
